Norm Friedman Presents
a Three-Session Writing Workshop
at Main Library
Take your writing skills to the next level when
Shaker resident Norm Friedman, author
of 100+ Instant Writing Tips, will offer a
three-session writing workshop from 10 to
11:30 am Saturday mornings, January 31,
February 28, and March 28. The classes are
designed to help both business people and job
seekers improve their writing skills.
A Mercer resident and Miami University
graduate, Friedman has been a writer, editor,
and
proofreader
for nearly
40 years.
Before founding
Norm Friedman
Communications,
he was director of
communications for the
Jewish Federation of Cleveland for 20
years. Friedman has led writing workshops
throughout the county helping businesses,
nonprofits, and individuals refine their
writing, improve their grammar, and write
more consistently, correctly, and effectively.
During his January workshop,
Friedman will provide A Hit List of Frequently
Confused Words and Related Errors. His
February Workshop will focus on Commonly
Misunderstood Grammar and Punctuation
Rules, and in March he will discuss Editing and
Proofing Your Own Work.

Library Seeks Entries for 16th Annual Barbara Luton Art Contest
Artists interested in entering the Library’s 16th annual Barbara Luton Art Competition are
encouraged to pick up an entry form at the circulation desks at either library. The contest is
named in honor of Shaker resident Barbara Luton, a former Library director.
Entries will be accepted from 1 to 5 pm Friday, March 6, and from 10 am to 2 pm
Saturday, March 7. A nonrefundable entry fee of $25 for up to two pieces of artwork is
required at the time of entry.
Past winners include Gary Williams, Horace Reese, Terry Sciko, John Harmon, Johnine
Byrne, Jerome White, David Brichford, Daniel George, Mary Ryan, Amy Lewandowski,
Paula Zinsmeister, Judy Takacs, Ted Yu, Michael Prunty, and Candace Dangerfield.
The awards include a purchase award of up to $1,000 for the Best of Show; $200
for First Place; $100 for Second Place; $50 for Third Place, and certificates for honorable
mention. Awards will be presented at a reception from 2 to 4 pm Sunday, March 29. The
exhibit will continue through April 18.

its second Literary
Libations at the Library
from 7-9 pm Friday,
February 6 at the
Main Library. This
year’s benefit features
the book, Tequila
Mockingbird: Cocktails
with a Literary Twist
by Tim Federle. This
little cocktail book for
the literary-obsessed
features delicious drink
recipes and wry (or is it
rye?) commentary on
some beloved novels.
Tickets: $25/person
for two drink tickets,
or $50 person, which
includes two drink
tickets and a copy of
the book.
