Always True Love

One common denominator:
they met at Shaker Heights High School.

As Shakespeare tells us, the course of true love ne’er did run smooth.
Or even swiftly, for that matter. As the stories that follow can attest,
sometimes that initial spark can take years to ignite.
But for these four couples – and countless others,
no doubt – the seeds of love were planted at
Shaker Heights High School.
Sweethearts:
Faisal Khan
and Angela DiCorleto,
both SHHS ’98.
Faisal is a lawyer with University Hospitals. Angela is a social worker who is currently staying at home with their young
daughter, Amina (and their first child, Rocky, a rescue Boxer).
How they met: Marching band and in English class.
He says: Angela was very quiet. She was the kind of person who
showed up early to class. She really wasn’t on my radar.
She says: I thought he was sort of obnoxious – overly social, kind
of goofy. I had no interest in him.
What brought them together: Senior year, they had mutual
friends at school and started hanging out together, but
never dated.
He says: The summer before college is when we really
became good friends. Then we went off to college and
went in different directions. Angela and I chatted a lot
on AOL Instant Messenger, which was brand
new then.

She says: Faisal came to visit me the spring of my sophomore
year at Smith College. We got along really well, but I sent him an
email saying I didn’t think we should date. I didn’t want to wreck
the friendship. When I went to England the next year to study, he
surprised me with a visit on Valentine’s Day. That was it!
Married since: June 23, 2007. They were married at the
Cleveland Botanical Gardens, with several Shaker alums in the
wedding party and in attendance.
Now: They recently moved back to Shaker Heights from
Washington D.C. and bought a home in the Malvern
neighborhood.
He says: Once Amina was born, we wanted to be near friends and
family. We really didn’t have much of a social life in Bethesda. We
love all the restaurants and sports teams here.
She says: We also love the Metroparks, the sidewalks, and
neighborhoods. I think you appreciate everything more when you
leave and come back.
