Ron worked in food service for Sysco Corporation for
37 years. Jane ran a magazine agency for 25 years. They
are the first of three generations in their family to marry their
Shaker sweetheart: their son, Doug Grossman, married Anna
McKee, both SHHS ’78. Their grandson, Morgan Grossman-
McKee married Susie Garverick, both SHHS ’06.
How they met: He walked her home from a dance. They also
worked on school newspapers together – first the Woodbury Scroll
and then the Shakerite.
She says: He was cute and smart and could make people laugh.
We would talk every day before school, and he would walk me
home after school.
He says: She would pass me a note in the hallway: “Look at Mr.
David’s socks – they don’t match!” We had Spanish together,
and the teacher would always tease me about Senorita Jane.
What brought them together: Attending dancing
school, and going to football games and social

movies at the Vogue Theater, bowling at Shaker Square, and to
Mawby’s for burgers and fries.
Married since: December 19, 1954. They recently celebrated 60
years of wedded bliss.
Now: After living for 35 years on Huntington Road, they moved
to a one-level home in the Mercer area. Twins Alan and Bob
graduated in ’76, and daughter Linda in ’82. They now have
grandchildren at Shaker Middle School and Shaker High.
He says: I have enjoyed staying involved with
the schools through the Summer Academy
(an initiative funded by the classes of ‘50/
January’51 to help underperforming students
transition to the High School).
She says: We’ve just started planning for
our 65th reunion. We love seeing people
from our class and talking about our
shared experience at Shaker. It was
a good time. SL
and the te acher would always tease me about Señorita Jane.”
