Meet The Authors: Ken Krsolovic and Bryan Fritz
In the spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of… baseball. Meet
Ken Krsolovic and Bryan Fritz, authors of League Park, Historic Home of Cleveland
Baseball, 1891-1946, published by McFarland and Company, at 7:30 pm
Monday, May 5 at Woods Branch.
The book is a comprehensive history of
League Park, in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood
and primary home field for Major
League Baseball in Cleveland from 1891 to
1946. It has a significant history that includes
the National Football League, Negro League
baseball, college football and boxing, and a
multitude of other amazing events and people.
The site has survived to this day as a baseball
field, and a groundbreaking for renovations took
place in October 2012.
Krsolovic, an athletic administrator, baseball
coach, and sports broadcaster at several colleges
and universities, was a collegiate sports information
director who wrote and designed 30 award-winning
team media guides. Fritz previously published a book
about the history of John Carroll University football.

Summer Reading Program
Children who don’t read over the summer
will lose more than two months of
reading achievement. The Library has a
way to avoid this “summer slide” with an
exciting reading program. Get Creative:
Read begins June 11 and continues
through August 6. The program is funded
by the Friends of the Shaker Library.
Children can register and track their
reading time online at shakerlibrary.org
or in person to earn prizes. Teens ages
13-18 can participate as well by recording
their reading time to qualify for weekly
gift card drawings from Barnes & Noble,
iTunes, GameStop, and Subway, and for
a grand prize. Sign up online beginning
June 11.

Celebrate National Library Week:
April 13-19
When you see the Library’s “One of
America’s Best” banners rippling in the
wind near the Main Library and Woods
Branch, you know it’s time to celebrate
National Library Week.
This year, Friends of the Shaker
Library celebrates by partnering with
Barnes & Noble at the Eton Collection,
28801 Chagrin Boulevard, for a Bookfair
to be held all day Saturday, April 19. Pick
up a Bookfair voucher at the Library and
present it at Barnes & Noble with your
purchases. The Friends will receive a
percentage of the sale. Or register for the
Bookfair at the store and a portion of your
purchase will be donated to the Friends.
Bookfair vouchers can also be used and will
be available at the Friends Book Sale,
April 9-13.
