Good news for drivers of electric vehicles:
By this spring, Shaker will have three new EV charging stations, bringing the
total number in the City to five and the total number of ports to eight. This
gives Shaker Heights more EV charging ports than any other community in
Northeast Ohio.
The three new stations – at City Hall, Thornton Park, and Larchmere
Boulevard – were funded by a $35,000 grant from the Northeast Ohio Public
Energy Council.
“Each of the three new locations is near transit and apartments,
making charging more equitable and accessible,” says Michael Peters, the
City’s sustainability consultant. “Having public charging stations throughout the
City gives residents the freedom to choose an electric vehicle even if they live
in an apartment or condo.”
All five EV stations are powered with 100 percent renewable electric.
The four on City property (see map) fall under the City’s 100 percent renewable
program; the one at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation is powered by a
solar array. SL
