Kudos
for City Departments
The Planning Department continues to earn recognition for its work on the Van
Aken District. In October, the Ohio Chapter of the American Planning Association
recognized the District with a 2019 Ohio Planning Award. The award is in addition
to the Gold 2019 National Planning Achievement Award for Implementation, which
the District received last spring from the American Planning Association (APA).
The biennial Ohio APA awards program honors outstanding planning and
planning leadership in Ohio, recognizing the highest levels of achievement.
“The Van Aken District came into existence after 18 years of planning, five City
plans, and more than 60 public meetings," notes Shaker’s Planning Director Joyce
Braverman. “We are grateful that this project continues to receive such tremendous
support and recognition.”
Meanwhile, the Communications & Marketing Department was awarded a Savvy
Award for Shaker Life magazine from the 3CMA: City-County Communications &
Marketing Association. This award recognizes excellence in public communications.
Shaker Life won in the category of External Publications.
“Shaker Life is an important tool for the City’s attract-and-retain efforts,” says
Communications & Marketing Director Julie McGovern Voyzey. “Not only does it
help draw new residents to our City, it’s a great way for current residents to learn
more about the people, places, and things that make Shaker such a special place to
live. We’re honored that the judges recognized not only the quality of Shaker Life,
but its value to the community.”
