SHAKER LIFE | WINTER 2014 23
Children’s Book Parties
One way to a young reader’s heart
is through… a party! Shaker Library
Children’s Services staff has found an
entertaining way to encourage reading
and to celebrate authors by hosting book
parties that focus on a particular author.
Held on selected Saturdays from
2:30–3:30 pm, the programs are geared
for children in grades 1 to 5 and feature
fun activities related to the books, craft
making, and a party snack.
On January 25 children can celebrate
at a Geronimo Stilton Book Party. The title
character is the editor and publisher of
The Rodent’s Gazette. He takes readers on
fabulous, fast-paced adventures. Colorful
graphics and funny puns make this series
written by Elisabetta Dami enjoyable for
all readers.
On February 22 children are invited
to an Elephant and Piggy Book Party
that celebrates author Mo Willems, a
three-time Caldecott Honor winner. The
series is laugh-out-loud funny with text
and illustrations that are simple enough
for preschool-age children to enjoy, but
clever and witty enough to entertain
grade-schoolers and adults.
When is the bestest time to
celebrate? March 22 with the ever-popular
Junie B. Jones, whose adventures
are chronicled by author Barbara Park.
Young readers and parents can RSVP
online or by calling 216-991-2030.
