Marketing Moreland’s
Infill Housing
The City of Shaker Heights is
encouraging buyers to build new houses
on vacant lots within its borders. Yes,
new houses in Shaker.
When the housing market
crashed in 2008, the Moreland
neighborhood was particularly hard
hit. In the intervening years, vacant
and uninhabitable homes were razed
as a strategy to maintain the stability
of the neighborhood. The resulting
vacant lots were land banked for future
use. That strategy is now bearing fruit,
creating a rare opportunity to build new
houses alongside the solidly built and
beautifully maintained historic homes in
the neighborhood.
To attract a new generation of
buyers, a marketing effort is underway.
It is an important part of a recently
launched City-wide attract-and-retain
campaign known as Shaker365. The
marketing campaign identifies the daily
discoveries and joys that abound in
Shaker Heights.
The Moreland housing component
of the campaign emphasizes the
advantages of a life where new
residents are welcomed into a thriving
community, conveniently walkable
to Main Library, Heinen’s, and rapid
transit. In addition, 10-year tax
abatement and energy efficiency
amenities enhance the affordability of
these new homes. The City’s marketing
team is working with the builder,
Knez Homes, to attract buyers to this
housing product and to the warm
embrace of the Moreland community.

New CodeRED Emergency Notification System
Keeps You in the Know
Cuyahoga County has upgraded its ReadyNotify alert system to a new platform
called CodeRED, one of the leading notification systems available in the United
States. Both the County and the City will use CodeRED to provide residents with
time-sensitive and/or emergency information impacting the community.
Residents are encouraged to stay in the know by signing up to receive text,
email, or voice alerts via CodeRED. The system is provided free of charge by the
County. Even if you’ve registered for ReadyNotify in the past, you must re-register
for the new CodeRED platform in order to continue receiving alerts.
When registering, be sure to do these two things:
1. Select the General Alerts option;
2. Select Shaker Heights under Additional Notifications.
This ensures you’ll receive alerts for both Cuyahoga County and Shaker Heights.
In addition, residents can download the CodeRED Mobile Alert app from the App Store
or Google Play. Note that the app will send notifications based on your current location,
so as you travel around Northeast Ohio you may receive alerts from other communities.
