The Library also offers a variety of
out-of-school activities. Children can build
with Legos, learn about different artists and
practice imitating their styles, experiment
in science by exploding a volcano, or create
batteries with potatoes and electrodes.
All of these activities are designed to lead
children to discover new interests, and the
Library offers reading to support them.
Summer is an excellent time for
parents and caregivers to model good
reading behavior by reading alongside their
children. Summer is a time for children to
try new books, and the summer reading
Beanstack app is a fun way to track reading
progress and motivate young readers with
electronic incentives and badges.
Shaker Builds Readers runs from
June 3 through August 16 and officially
kicks off with the festive Sounds of Summer
Reading outdoor celebration from 6 to 8
pm Wednesday, June 3 at Woods Branch.
Sign up at the Library, online, or through
the Beanstack app. Read every day. Track
your reading progress and earn prizes. Visit
the Library this summer and help to build a
community of readers.
