Morningstar Investments is another
useful database. Morningstar Investment
Research Center provides independent,
in-depth research and recommendations on
11,000 stocks, 24,000 mutual funds, and
950 exchange traded funds. The format is
user-friendly and includes an investment
education section with videos and user
guides to help you through the various
screen options available. This is a useful
section for new investors or for people
interested in understanding topics such as
new financial instruments, tax changes, or
reducing personal debt while investing.
Additionally, the Library provides a
link to EDGAR, a government acronym
for Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis,
and Retrieval. Run by the Securities and
Exchange Commission, EDGAR requires
all companies, foreign and domestic, to file
registration statements, periodic reports, and
other forms electronically.
These databases are available online
to Shaker Library cardholders. From
shakerlibrary.org, choose the Research tab
at the top of the page and from the menu on
the left side of the page, select the Business,
Law and Finance link.
Library, City, and AARP Offer Free
Tax Preparation for Seniors
This program offers free, individualized tax
preparation for low-to moderate-income
taxpayers – especially those 60 and older –
from 9:30 am to 4 pm Tuesdays and Fridays
through April 10 on the second floor of the
Main Library. An appointment is necessary;
please call 216-491-1360.
How Does Your Garden Grow?
April showers bring May flowers… and
gardening programs at Main Library. Barb
Franzen of Master Gardeners of Cuyahoga
County will present a program on container
gardening at 7 pm Tuesday, April 7. Franzen
will offer ideas on choosing pots; suggest
plants, including annuals, perennials, herbs,
vegetables, or trees; and suggest ways to
fertilize and maintain the containers. She
will also provide examples and pictures of
containers to use throughout your yard.
If shaded areas pose problems for
your green thumbs, the Master Gardeners
of Cuyahoga County will present Smart
Solutions for Shade Gardening at 7 pm
Tuesday, April 21. Learn how to create a
beautiful garden in moist or dry shade.
