When Shaker Heights
High School introduced the
International Baccalaureate (IB)
Diploma Program in 2010,
there was a fair amount of
risk involved. Uncharted
territory lay ahead for faculty,
students, and parents.
While the Diploma Program
has flourished abroad since
the 1970s, its growth in the
United States has been more
recent. Shaker became one
of only a handful of high
schools in Northeast Ohio to
offer the prestigious elective
program for juniors
and seniors.
