Please, Stay Off Mud Flats
As you enjoy fall around the Shaker Lakes, remember to stay off the mud flats that have formed on Horseshoe Lake and Green Lake.
They are dangerous and you will sink in the mud, which could require a rescue operation. Fencing is in place around both lakes.
The lakes have been drained as part of the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s (NEORSD) $2.3 million project to upgrade
the dams on the Shaker Lakes. Work on the Green Lake dam is due to be completed next year. Residents can look forward to a new
walkway at Green Lake, similar to the one on Brook Road at Lower Lake.
Last summer’s heavy rains caused further damage to Horseshoe Lake’s dam. As a result, the Ohio Department of Natural
Resources directed the City to completely drain the lake (see photo). NEORSD is developing a long-term solution for the structural
deficiencies of the Horseshoe Lake dam, but until construction is complete – it’s estimated the work will take two years – the lake
must remain almost completely drained.
