2018 Preservation Month
Photo Contest Winners
The Shaker Heights Landmark Commission announced winners of the sixth annual Preservation Month
photo contest after reviewing 59 entries submitted by
25 photographers. The contest,
created in 2013,
honors National
Preservation Month,
which is celebrated each
May by preservation
organizations across
the country. In a nod to
the widespread use of
smartphone cameras and
social media, this year’s
contest was based
in Instagram.
The contest encouraged
residents and visitors to
submit images showcasing
what makes Shaker
“Shaker.” Submissions
ranged from architectural
details to landmark
buildings, neighborhood
scenes and events, to streets
and parks.
This year, the
Commission selected a
grand prize winner and four
runners-up. In addition, a
People’s Choice award was
given to the submission
receiving the most “likes”
at the Instagram hashtag
#PreserveSH18, where all the
photos can be viewed.
“These photos have
captured a visually arresting
quality of Shaker — its
architecture, neighborhoods,
gardens — which reveals the
essence of what connects
our history to our present.
The Landmark Commission
takes great pleasure in sharing
these photographs with our
community,” says Councilwoman
Nancy Moore, Chair of the
Landmark Commission. SL
