SHAKER LIFE | WINTER 2015 21
The challenge, then, is to find the right mix of design and offerings to reach the widest
audience and to satisfy the extremes of public tastes. The Library cannot be all things to all
people, but it can bring the best things to as many people as possible, whether the purpose
is educational, cultural, informational, or recreational.
Library Seeks New Trustees
The Shaker Heights Board of Education is seeking candidates for the Library’s board
of trustees.
Two seats are available. One is to complete the final five years
of Jeanne Shatten’s term from April 1, 2015 through March 31,
2020. The second is for a seven-year term (April 1, 2015 through
March 31, 2022) to replace Kurt Miller. Both Shatten and Miller
are completing nine years of service.
The board is the Library’s governing body, establishing policy
and approving expenditures. Current members include Judith
Allen, Peter Anagnostos, Chad Anderson, Michael Bertsch, Brian
Gleisser, Kurt Miller, Jeanne Shatten, and Carmella Williams. The
board usually meets at 6:30 pm the second Monday of the month,
September through June.
Shaker School District residents interested in being
considered for appointment should have a history of civic and
community involvement. Download an application form at
shakerlibrary.org, or pick up a copy at one of the Library locations
or the Board of Education Administration Building. Address: Library Trustee Search, Shaker
Heights Board of Education, 15600 Parkland Drive, Shaker Heights, OH 44120. Completed
applications must be returned to the Board of Education by February 6.
