It’s the first quarter of the year, time to start visiting preschools
to capture a spot for your child in the fall. Shaker has an
abundance of quality preschools with programming for the
very, very young (as early as 6 weeks) to the not-so-very
young (5 to 7 years). Some are full-day, some are not.

A Wealth of Preschools
to perform first aid and CPR. Overnight trip
leaders also have years of experience with tent
camping and various outdoor activities.
What to bring?
Most camps will provide a packing list.
We give campers a list of recommended
equipment and clothing, with an emphasis
on layers and packing lightly. We also require
medical forms from every camper, which
parents must fill out prior to participation.
This way, we know about potential medical
issues. For example, for campers with an
allergy that may require an Epi-Pen, we’re
capable of administering that.
Why do an overnight camp?
It’s just an amazing experience. My parents
never took me camping, it just wasn’t their
thing. It wasn’t until I was 16 or 17 that I
went camping with friends in high school
and absolutely loved it. At the Nature Center,
the whole point is to share with campers
the joys of being outdoors so that they can
make their own connections with nature.
And hopefully those connections will last a
lifetime. SL
