SHAKER LIFE | SUMMER 2017 25
Nieman Fellowship to Harvard, Cleveland
Arts Prize, and Seth Rosenberg Prize, and
is the Armington Professor of English at
Case-Western Reserve University.
Meet Celeste Ng at 7 pm Tuesday,
September 19 when she visits Main
Library to talk about her second novel
set in Shaker Heights, Little Fires
Everywhere. The book explores the weight
of secrets, the nature of art and identity,
the ferocious pull of motherhood – and
the danger of believing that following the
rules can avert disaster.
Now living in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, Ng is a 1998 graduate
of Shaker Heights High School. She
graduated from Harvard and earned an
MFA from the University of Michigan
(now the Helen Zell Writers’ Program at
the University of Michigan), where she
won the Hopwood Award.
Her fiction and essays have appeared
in the New York Times, One Story, The
Guardian, and TriQuarterly. She is a
recipient of the Pushcart Prize, the
Massachusetts Book Award, the American
Library Association’s Alex Award, and a
fellowship from the National Endowment
for the Arts. Her first book, Everything
I Never Told You, was a New York Times
bestseller and a New York Times Notable
Book of 2014.
Following both programs, books will
be available for sale and signing. Please call
the Main Library to reserve your place.
