Locally sourced ingredients combined in ways that
tickle and thrill the taste buds. Food that tastes good,
looks good, and benefits the body and the earth.
Good, creative, healthy food
is having a moment.
And Shaker wants in.
We have a lot to look forward to
when the Van Aken District food hall
establishments open their doors next year.
Foodie heaven will be in our own backyard,
with offerings curated by chef Jonathon
Sawyer, whose creativity and discerning
palette will bring a smorgasbord of
worthy offerings to the District.
Meanwhile, several of Shaker’s own
talented culinary artists have carved out
a niche for themselves. These are small food
businesses — internet entrepreneurs for the
most part — that offer high quality fare.
In the next pages, we introduce some of
these imaginative local chefs and bakers,
whose skill in the kitchen has been taken
to heart by residents, and people
well beyond Shaker.
